A one-year BTEC First Diploma in Applied Science, at Level 2, preparing learners for progression to Level 3 courses, or entry into apprenticeships and the world of work.
The course is composed of twelve units of study, eight of which are mandatory and four optional. Two of the mandatory units, Unit 1 and Unit 8 are externally assessed via a written paper examination, whilst the remaining ten units are assessed internally, via written assignments.
1080 GLH. It is equivalent in size to three A Levels and consists of 13 units of which 7 are mandatory and 4 are external examination units.

Designed as a two-year, full-time course that meets entry requirements in its own right for learners who want to progress to higher education courses in the science sector, before entering employment.
Learners can either choose a pathway which focuses on a particular occupational area, such as biomedical science, analytical and forensic science, physical science; or take a general route for further study in the sector.
